The ninth annual Lake Zurich Triathlon in Lake
Zurich, Illinois was held in almost perfect weather. Mid 60 degree
temperatures greeted around 900 tri athletes as they prepared
for the 1500 meter swim across Lake Zurich The elites and teams
started in two waves, the rest of us started time trial fashion,
3 athletes every 5 seconds.
The two-loop bike course was very well marshaled. The weather
continued to cooperate with a slight breeze from the north keeping
things pleasant. All sort of bikes were to be seen on the course,
everything from expensive tri specific bikes to fat tire hard
tail mountain bikes. One thing in common was that it appeared
everyone was having a good time.
The run course was around Lake Zurich and not totally flat. Running
through some residential areas provided some welcome shade.
All in all the event was very well managed and one I would recommend
putting on your calendar for next year.
